Luthier & Musician
Raymond Palmer, owner of the Palmer Violin Shop, is an artist and craftsman, as well as life-long musician. A graduate of the Violin Making School of America, he has worked with some of the world's most respected modern luthiers, including Peter Prier and Terry Borman.
Raymond moved to Fayetteville in 2007. He opened his first shop in historic downtown Fayetteville soon after, and has moved through a progression of larger and larger work spaces to accommodate growing demand. His current shop in Rogers has space for violin, viola, and cello sales, repairs, and instrument making.
Raymond's handmade instruments are played by professional musicians, university faculty members, and university students in Northwest Arkansas and across the region.
My background as a musician has been integral to my success as a luthier. I know how an instrument is supposed to feel in the hand, and I have a good sense of how the mechanics of playing affects the way an instrument responds.
I know I have to keep my clients happy – I'll probably be sitting next to one at rehearsal!
Hope to see you on stage, in the audience, or here at the shop.
